New Off-Leash Dog Park in Glen Innes

Where We Started

Council asked the community for feedback on a proposed new fully fenced off-leash dog park at Lions Park during consultation held from 7 August to 4 September 2024. A total of 23 submissions were received.

Council allocated $35,000 in the 2024–25 budget for the project and identified Lions Park as the preferred location for a new dog park.

The original concept (highlighted in yellow) proposed a secure off-leash space for dogs and their owners, supported by features such as fencing, double entry gates, shelter, signage, basic agility infrastructure, pet waste bags, rubbish bins, water infrastructure and entry lighting.

Council reviewed the feedback received and published a summary of community responses following consultation.

What Changed

Following consultation, Council officers undertook final design checks ahead of installation. As part of that process, the layout was adjusted to maintain appropriate separation from the unformed East Avenue road reserve.

While the updated design is slightly narrower in shape, the overall off-leash area is larger than the earlier design. The refined layout also includes separate areas for small and large dogs, with existing trees providing shade for pets and their owners.

What’s Happening Now

Council officers have now finalised the refined design for the dog park.

Based on the original concept and refined design, the dog park is planned to include:

• a fully enclosed off-leash area
• separate areas for small and large dogs
• double entry gates
• existing shelter and amenities nearby
• shade from existing trees
• signage for use of the park
• basic agility or play infrastructure
• pet waste bags
• rubbish bins
• water infrastructure for dogs and people
• entry lighting

The updated layout (highlighted in red), provides a secure enclosed space for dogs to run and play off leash.
