Donation of a Sculpture for Installation in Emmaville

Glen Innes Severn Council is pleased to announce the acceptance of a generous donation from Taronga Mines Pty Ltd: a unique sculpture affectionately known as "Roobot." This striking piece of art is intended for installation in a public park or space in Emmaville, where it will serve as a creative focal point for both residents and visitors.

Council acknowledges Taronga Mines' generous contribution and shares their belief that Roobot will enhance the local streetscape and support Emmaville’s growing appeal as a destination rich in charm, heritage, and community spirit.

Taronga Mines Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of First Tin Plc, is advancing the Taronga Tin Project near Emmaville, demonstrating a commitment to responsible resource development and community engagement.

About Roobot

Roobot is a tribute to the animals involved in the 2019 east coast bushfires. Roobot is designed to search and rescue native Australian wildlife from all-natural disasters including floods, cyclones, bushfires and droughts. Roobot collects the injured and misplaced animals and transports them in his pouch to safety and to receive medical assistance. Roobot is made from 100% recycled materials mainly from classic Volkswagen Kombi and Volkswagen Beetle panels.

First exhibited at the 2024 Swell Sculpture Festival, Currumbin Beach, Gold Coast, Queensland.

About the Artist – Michael Brown

Michael “Mick” Brown has been creating art his whole life and began his career as a traditional sign writer in the Whitsundays. He has been an oil painter and airbrush artist for the best part of his life. Mick discovered the world of sculpture when he entered Swell Sculpture Festival for the first time with his sculpture “Shark Rod” in 2023 before making “Roobot” for the 2024 Swell Sculpture Festival.
