Call for Expressions of Interest

Community Safety Forum

At its Ordinary Meeting of 18 December 2025, Glen Innes Severn Council resolved to establish a Community Safety Forum and to call for expressions of interest from members of the community to participate.

The Community Safety Forum has been created as a community‑based, Council‑supported forum to bring together local stakeholders to work collaboratively on community safety issues affecting the whole Glen Innes Severn local government area, including Glen Innes and surrounding villages.

The Forum recognises that improving community safety requires early intervention, place‑based responses and coordinated effort across the community, rather than isolated actions by individual organisations.

Purpose of the Community Safety Forum

The primary purpose of the Community Safety Forum is to provide a structured and inclusive forum to:

  • support early intervention and place‑based strategies to improve community safety across towns and villages
  • align efforts across agencies, sectors and the community, reducing duplication and strengthening collective impact
  • provide a transparent way to track progress on community safety priorities over time
  • assist Council in ensuring that actions it may consider, such as CCTV, lighting and safer public spaces, are appropriate, informed and responsive to local needs across the Glen Innes Severn area

While participation and collaboration are central to the Forum, Council’s role is one of facilitation and advocacy. The Forum is intended to support informed discussion, shared understanding and coordinated action, rather than act as a decision‑making body.

A copy of the Terms of Reference can be found here.

Membership and Participation

In accordance with the adopted Terms of Reference, the Community Safety Forum is intended to include representation from a broad cross‑section of the community, including:

  • Council representatives
  • the education sector
  • the business community, including business owners
  • community members
  • other relevant stakeholders, who may be invited to participate as required

Council is seeking balanced representation that reflects the diversity of the Glen Innes Severn area and strongly encourages expressions of interest from village representatives.

Calling for Expressions of Interest

Council now invites expressions of interest from business owners and community members who live, work or operate anywhere within the Glen Innes Severn local government area, including Glen Innes and surrounding villages, and who have an interest in contributing to improved community safety outcomes.

Expressions of interest should outline:

  • your background
  • your connection to your local community
  • your interest in participating in the Community Safety Forum

Please submit your expression of interest by 5pm 10 April 2026.
