Summary

Glen Innes Severn Council is seeking community feedback on its Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2025-2029.

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan, also known as the DIAP, sets out Council’s commitment to improving access, inclusion and participation for people with disability across the Glen Innes Severn Local Government Area over the next four years.

The draft plan has been developed in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW) and builds on the priorities identified through community consultation undertaken as part of Council’s Aged Care and Disability Inclusion Strategy 2025-2035.

Community feedback received during the exhibition period will help inform the final Disability Inclusion Action Plan before it is presented to Council for adoption.

Focus Areas

The Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan focuses on four key areas identified under the NSW Disability Inclusion Framework.

Developing Positive Community Attitudes and Behaviours
Promoting awareness, understanding and inclusion through community education, communication and engagement initiatives.

Creating Livable Communities
Improving accessibility in public spaces, facilities, infrastructure and community environments.

Supporting Access to Meaningful Employment
Encouraging inclusive employment practices, workplace accessibility and participation opportunities.

Improving Access to Mainstream Services Through Better Systems and Processes
Enhancing communication, customer service and access to information and services.



Key Actions

Some of the actions proposed in the Draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan include:

  • Delivering disability awareness and inclusion initiatives.
  • Improving accessibility of Council facilities, parks, pathways and public spaces.
  • Considering universal design principles in infrastructure projects.
  • Promoting inclusive recruitment and employment practices.
  • Providing information in accessible formats.
  • Improving website and digital accessibility.
  • Maintaining consultation and engagement with people with disability and the Community Access Committee.
